Chapter Summary

This chapter presents an overview on the Aristotle's epistemology and shows that the methodology of his psychology is appropriately embedded in hylemorphistic ontology. Cognitive acts of cognition efficient creatures are thus described as a changing process which exists in the updates of specific dispositions (assets) of physical bodies. The chapter examines different strategies of Aristotle's epistemological model. It describes the intellect theory as the pivot of Pomponazzi epistemology, in which the inner orientation can be best described from the perspective of intellective knowledge. The chapter presents the Pomponazzi views on the ontological status of the intellect. Pomponazzi deals with the argument that Aristotle wants to prove the immateriality of the intellect. The chapter examines the epistemological consequences that draws Pomponazzi from the adoption of a body-fixed intellect. The original text of the chapter is in German.
