Chapter Summary

I have never written about my friendship with Samuel Beckett. If I do so now, it is to convey the great respect and extreme generosity he showed people who dedicated much of their creative lives to his work. Corresponding with Beckett from 1982 to 1989 and meeting him during the last four years of his life was a privilege and a fascinating experience.
