Chapter Summary

Using information contained in the volume L’Inquisizione del patriarcato di Aquileia e della diocesi di Concordia. Gli atti processuali, 1557–1823, this contribution examines the correspondence between the Congregation of the Holy Office and the peripheral inquisitorial tribunals of Udine and Concordia between 1578 and 1653 to check the level of guidance bestowed upon inquisitors by cardinals and popes, and the extent to which the inquisitions remained autonomous.
