As a result of the visit of President Kim Dae Jung of the Republic of Korea to Japan in October 1998, and his meeting with the Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi of Japan, the two leaders declared their common determination to build a new Japan-Republic of Korea partnership towards the 21st century.
