The Bromus flora of Palestine comprises 16 species belonging to three subgenera: subgenus Zerna (two perennial species), subgenus Stenobromus (seven annual species) and subgenus Zeobromus (seven annual species). B. diandrus Roth, which has been confused with B. rigidus Roth until recently, is recorded from Palestine for the first time. Diagnostic characters, useful in identifying species and intraspecific taxa in both flowering and fruiting states, are emphasized; a key to the species is included. Ecology and geographical distribution in the country have been studied in the field. Maps show the distribution in Palestine of each species. Chromosome numbers were counted in 12 annual species. The following are first counts: B. fasciculatus Presi 2n = 14; B. palaestinus Meld. 2n = 14. Details on chromosomes of other species are supplied.
