A specimen of the rare crab, Heterocrypta maltzami (Decapoda, Brachyura, Parthenophidae) was caught during a bottom trawl survey in the Strait of Sicily in 2004, on the African shelf off Lampedusa Island (central Mediterranean Sea), at a depth of about 90 m. This individual, a female of 10 mm carapace length and 12 mm carapace width, represents the first documented record of this species in the Strait of Sicily. Un esemplare del raro granchio Heterocrypta maltzami (Decapoda, Brachyura, Parthenopidae) è stato ritrovato durante una campagna di pesca a strascico sperimentale nello Stretto di Sicilia nel 2004, sulla piattaforma continentale africana al largo di Lampedusa (Mediterraneo centrale), alla profondità di 90 m circa. L'individuo — una femmina con carapace lungo 10 mm e largo 12 mm — costituisce il primo ritrovamento documentato della specie nello Stretto di Sicilia.
