1. In the imaginal disks of some dipteran larvae an AMP-splitting enzyme can be demonstrated. 2. For D. araicas, D. guaramunu, D. robusta, Musca, Phormia and Zaprionus a species-specific pattern of AMP-ase activity exists. The pattern of Phormia shows a close resemblance to that of Calliphora. 3. In D. hydei, F. funebris and D. melanogaster no AMP-ase activity could be demonstrated at all. 4. Since no relation exists between the general morphology of the disks and their AMP-ase pattern, a morphogenetic role is unlikely.
