1. The quantitative assessment of a chemoresponse (eating movements) at different stimulus intensities in specimens of Lymnaea stagnalis with interrupted connections of the nervous system is a suitable method for the detection of chemosensitive areas and the nervous pathways involved. 2. The tentacles do not play an important role in chemoreception related to feeding, at least with respect to sucrose. 3. Among the labial nerves the n. labialis medius appears to be involved in the transmission of feeding inducing stimuli evoked in chemoreceptors. 4. The cerebro-buccal connectives presumably transfer information generated at the periphery by chemical stimulation to the buccal ganglia. 5. Therefore it is tentatively proposed that stimulation of receptors in the lips by sucrose may affect the buccal ganglia via the n. labialis medius, the cerebral ganglia, and the cerebro-buccal connectives, successively.
