Quatre groupes de six épinoches, provenant de deux pontes, ont été observés au cours des premiers mois de leur existence. Les groupes se différenciaient par 1) leur origine génétique, et 2) l'espace disponible dans l'aquarium. Pratiquement aucune agressivité n'apparut dans les groupes de l'une des pontes, ce qui souligne l'importance de l'hérédité. Les scores des groupes de l'autre ponte indiquent quant à eux que la fréquence d'agressivité au sein des groupes est fonction directe de leur densité de population.
