Les auteurs donnent une description de la morphologie externe et de l'anatomie interne des ptérygopodes de Torpedo (Torpedo) marmorata Risso, 1810 qu'ils comparent avec celles de deux autres espèces du même genre: Torpedo (Tetronarce) nobiliana Bonaparte, 1835 et Torpedo (Tetrortarce) mackayana Metzelaar, 1919. En se basant sur cette étude des ptérygopodes, les auteurs essayent de reconsiderer le statut des Torpedinidae par rapport aux Rajidae, aux Dasyatidae et aux Myliobatidae à l'intérieur du groupe des Hypotrèmes.
