The fourth century Syriac church father Aphrahat cites Jer. 31.31–32 in his Demonstrations. His citation is remarkable since it differs dramatically from the text of the OT Peshitta. This essay analyzes the citation and presents a solution. What looks at first blush like a citation of the Peshitta OT is in reality a blending of the Syriac NT citation of the OT and the OT Peshitta text. His use of Gen. 15.6 corroborates this method of OT citation.
