The speech of the Rabshakeh in 2 Kings xviii has its counterparts in a number of texts from Egypt, Greece, Assyria, and in Josephus Flavius. These texts allow to interpret the speech of the Rabshakeh in some distance to the military needs and questions, which such speeches usually try to answer or to solve. The Josephan version of the speech of the Rabshakeh testifies to this military-oriented form of speech.
