[The gills of Leptocharias smithii, a small, endemic shark of the West African coast belonging to the family Leptochariidae, and collected in the coastal area of Dakar (Senegal) were examined. As a result, a new species of eudactilinid copepod was found. This species, named Eudactylina leptochariae n. sp., is here described. The species belongs to the group of Eudactylina species with a modified second exopod. The taxonomic position of E. leptochariae is discussed.
