Der neue, hier beschriebene parasitische Copepode wurde in der Kiemenkammer eines Lumpenus macrops Matsubara und Ochiai gefunden, der vor der Küste der Sado Insel im Japanischen Meer gefangen worden war. Die erbeuteten Exemplare zeigten in beiden Geschlechtern eine grosse Ähnlichkeit mit der Gattung Pharodes Illg, dem einzigen Repräsentanten der Unterfamilie Pharodinae, Familie Chondracanthidae. Andererseits unterscheiden sie sich aber von dieser Gattung in einer Anzahl von Charakteren, was die Errichtung einer neuen Gattung innerhalb der genannten Unterfamilie zu rechtfertigen scheint: Parapharodes n. gen., mit P. sadoensis n. sp.
