The taxonomy and biology of the Lamippidae, Copepod endoparasites of Octocorals, are still imperfectly known. Thanks to the material obtained during a visit to the Laborateire Arago, Banyuls-sur-Mer, it is now possible to give a revision of the Mediterranean forms, to redefine the genera Lamippe Bruzelius, Enalcyonium Olsson and Linaresia de Zulueta, and to establish two new genera: Lamippina and Lamippella. Most of the species previously referred to the genus Lamippe are now placed in Enalcyonium. The first note contains general considerations on the group, an account of the methods adopted in this study, a table of the recognized morphological characters and a dichotomous key to the determination of the genera and species. A detailed description of the type species of Enalcyonium, E. rubicundum Olsson, is given in the second note.
