Es werden Typen der Art Caligus gurnardi Kroyer, 1863 (vom Zoologischen Museum der Universität Kopenhagen, Dänemark) und C. gurnardi-Material (vom U. S. National Museum, Washington, D.C., U.S.A., sowie vom British Museum, London, und der Universität von British Columbia, Kanada) untersucht. Ein eingehendes Studium ergibt, dass Krøyer C. rapax in seine Beschreibung eingeschlossen hatte und dass das C. gurnardi-Material (aus dem N. O. Pacifik; von Wilson (1908) und Fraser (1919) bearbeitet) nicht mit der europäischen Art übereinstimmt. C. gurnardi wird wieder beschrieben und abgebildet. Caligus nanus Kroyer, 1863, wird als Synonym eingestuft. Die einzigen zuverlässigen Wirte sind Arten der Gattung Trigla aus der Nordsee.
