La classification morphologique de trois paires d'appendices circumbuccaux de la superfamille des Caligoidea est discutée. Les observations montrent que: 1. Le processus antérieur, ou postantennaire, (indiqué par "pap" sur les figs. 1-4) consiste généralement en trois nodules souvent couverts de nombreuses soies, et en une épine ou un coussinet servant d'appendice d'adhésion. 2. Les nodules et l'appendice d'adhésion sont d'origine indépendante; ils ne sont pas et n'ont jamais été associés à aucun autre organe. 3. Le second processus ("ma-1" sur les figs. 1-4) est la maxillule, qui a regressé de la forme biramée typique à celle maintenant observée chez les Caligides. 4. Le processus postérieur ("ma-2" sur les figs. 1-4) est la maxille.
