Forficatocaris n. gen., a second genus in the harpacticoid family Parastenocaridae, is described. All species belonging to this new genus (F. noodti n. sp., F. amazonensis (Noodt, 1963), F. tetracantha (Noodt, 1963), F. forficata (Noodt, 1963) and F. guarani (Noodt, 1963)) inhabit limnic sands in the Neotropics. Figures, tables, and a dichotomous key show the main morphological features of the highly modified forms, adapted to interstitial life.
