Eine seltene Art eines süßwasserlebenden Calanoiden, Neodiaptomus schmackeri, wird erstmals von Madurai, Südindien, gemeldet und eine Wiederbeschreibung mit Abbildungen vorgelegt. Die strukturellen und verbreitungsökologischen Beziehungen der schmackeri-Gruppe wird diskutiert. Der Autor vertritt die Ansicht, daß N. schmackeri, obwohl eng verwandt mit N. strigilipes und N. handeli (die anderen beiden Mitglieder der Gruppe), als eine getrennte Art angesehen werden muß.
