Les représentants du genre Oxynaspis vivent principalement sur les Anthipathaires dans presque toutes les mers chaudes du monde, mais aucun n'était connu jusqu'à présent du Pacifique oriental. La nouvelle espèce, Oxynaspis rossi, appartient au groupe O. celata qui a une large distribution, et elle est connue du sud de la Californie à la Basse Californie.
