Les échantillons de Evadne tergertina récoltés de la Chesapeake Bay du sud montrent le développement progressif d'embryons dans la cavité incubatrice des femelles parthénogénétiques pendant la nuit. On ne peut compter le nombre d'embryons par femelle que dans les échantillons pris lorsque la nuit est avancée. Vers l'aube, tous les embryons sont éclosés. On peut suivre la croissance d'une génération nouvellement éclosée dans les prélèvements successifs pris à travers une journée. Un individu de cette population apparemment relâche les embryons pour la première fois avec sa deuxième mue, après deux jours de vie.
