Le comportement acoustique du crabe semi-terrestre, Sesarma reticulatum, a été observé dans le milieu naturel, puis en laboratoire. Pendant la saison de reproduction les crabes de marais mâles défendent activement leur terriers et les occupants mâles répondent souvent à l'intrusion en produisant un son de tapement. La production du son n'a jamais été observée chez les crabes femelles et le son est limité d'habitude aux interactions uni-sexuelles dans le terrier. Un crabe mâle produit le son en frappant plusieurs fois une pince contre l'autre. Les sons enregistrés sur magnétophone au laboratoire consistaient en 6 à 29 tapements (contacts des pinces) et il y avait un intervalle d'un tiers de seconde environ entre les tapements.
