The description is given of Proasellus notenboomi, a new anophthalmous and unpigmented Asellid from pools and an underground stream of the Tafna Cave, near Tlemcen (Algeria). The known epigeous and hypogeous species of North African Asellidae are listed with their geographic distribution. The relationship of the new species is discussed.
