Ampelisca armoricana n. sp. is described from the Bay of Morlaix, northern Brittany, France. The population (in the summer more than 30.000 individuals per m2) has been destroyed by the hydrocarbon pollution from the wreck of the "Amoco Cadiz". The new species is characterized (1) by its short antennae: the first antenna reaches beyond the peduncle of the second, the second is about 1/3 as long as the body; (2) the presence on the first urosome segment of a shallow rounded carina; (3) the presence of a small tooth at the posteroinferior corner of the second epimeral plate; (4) the sinuous posterior margin of the third epimeral plate; (5) the presence of marginal spines on the first and second uropods. The species is compared to its nearest relatives.
