Die Analyse von 16 Arten der Gattung Tisbe hat ergeben, daß diese wegen des Fehlens von Geschlechtschromosomen, dem eigenartigen Aussehen der Oocytenbivalente und der Chromosomenzahl karyologisch sehr einheitlich ist. Andererseits sind die Karyotypen artspezifisch. Die Evolution der Gattung Tisbe ist wahrscheinlich von Reduktionen von Chromosomen-Armen und/oder Umordnungen auf ihnen begleitet gewesen.
