Les larves de Macropetasma africanus ont été élevées en laboratoire à 22± 1°C. Six nauplius, trois protozoés, trois mysis et le premier stade post-larvaire sont décrits. Les larves ont été nourries avec Thalassiosira weissflogii à partir des stades protozoé. Les stades protozoé, mysis et postlarvaires ont été atteints respectivement six, douze et dix neuf jours après l'éclosion.
