Untersuchungen über die intraspezifische und interspezifische Pheromonkommunikation von Procambarus clarkii und Procambarus acutus wurden unter Benutzung von Wasser, in welchem Männchen oder Weibchen einer der beiden Arten über 23 Stunden gehalten worden waren, durchgeführt. Die Männchen beider Arten reagierten aggressiv auf Testwasser von anderen Männchen beider Arten. Testwasser von Weibchen beider Arten wurde von Männchen beider Arten (im Vergleich zu Kontrollwasser) bevorzügt. Wenn vor die Wahl gestellt, bevorzugten Männchen Testwasser von Weibchen ihrer eigenen Spezies. Weibchen beider Arten bevorzugten Testwasser von Männchen (im Vergleich zu Kontrollwasser), waren aber nicht in der Lage, zwischen ihrer eigenen und der Fremdspezies zu unterscheiden.
