Le statut taxonomique de la crevette Paraenaeopsis stylifera coromandelica Alcock est discuté. D'après l'examen d'un matériel provenant de diverses côtes du sous-continent Indien, la reconnaissance de deux sous-espèces, à savoir P. stylifera stylifera (Milne Edwards) et P. stylifera coromandelica Alcock, semble justifiée et correcte. Cependant, les deux populations étant largement allopatriques, avec une certaine intergradation/hybridation le long des côtes sud-ouest de l'Inde, leur reconnaissance comme espèces distinctes ne paraît pas taxonomiquement appropriée. D'autre part, "Parapenaeopsis stylifera var. cochinensis George", n'est pas acceptable du point de vue taxonomique.
