Des crevettes Palaemon elegans Rathke, 1837, ont grandi en laboratoire, soumises à quatre régimes à 35% de protéine provenant de différentes sources: chair de crevette, farine de soja, broyat de Glycimeris séché, et mélange égal des trois. Les observations ont porté sur la survie, la croissance à la mue, la période d'intermue et la consommation de nourriture. La survie a été de 100% sous tous les régimes. Les crevettes et les mélanges ont produit de plus courts intermues et de plus grands accroissements que les autres régimes. La croissance globale était, dans l'ordre: crevettes > mélange > soja = Glycimeris. La croissance la plus forte, sous le régime crevettes, correspondait à la consommation de nourriture la plus élevée et la meilleure efficacité alimentaire, 31 %, au régime mixte.
