Une analyse génétique a été effectuée sur des échantillons de Panulirus argus de localités relativement éloignées, au Belize, Amérique Centrale, et sur deux phénotypes localement différenciés. Les résultats montrent un haut degré de similarité génétique entre des échantillons géographiquement distants. Bien que médiocrement résolu, la présence disproportionnée d'un rare allèle dans un échantillon suggère la possibilité d'un certain degré d'isolation génétique ou d'échange différentiel. Aucune différence génétique n'a pu être décelée entre les deux phénotypes de P. argus reconnus au Belize.
