The complete larval development of Eriocheir sinensis H. Milne Edwards, 1853, one of the largest grapsid crabs, is described and illustrated in detail from larvae reared in the laboratory. The present species passes through five zoeal stages before metamorphosis to the megalopal stage. At 25°C, the megalopa and the first crab instar were attained in minimum 15 and 25 days after hatching, respectively. Zoeal features distinguishing E. sinensis from other Varuninae are discussed, and a key to Korean species is provided. Differences between E. sinensis and other species of Eriocheir in the zoeal and megalopal stages are tabulated.
