A collection of 13 different crab species of the families Ocypodidae, Grapsidae, Portunidae, Majidae, Xanthidae, and Leucosiidae was made from the mangrove shores of Abu Dhabi. The crab fauna is particularly well represented by the Ocypodidae with five species present: Macrophthalmus depressus, Serenella leachii, Scopimera crabricauda, Ilyoplax frater and Ocypode rotundata. The Grapsidae are represented by one species Metopograpsus messor; the Portunidae by Portunus pelagicus, Portunus arabicus and Thalamita poissonii; the Majidae by Menaethius monoceros; the Xanthidae by Eurycarcinus orientalis and Pilumnopeus convexa; and the Leucosiidae by Ebalia sagittifera. Habitat preferences, distributional information and comments on morphology are given, and the species composition discussed in relation to other mangals of the Arabian region.
