The Trilateral Symposium on Particuology '88 cosponsored by the Chinese Society of Particuology, The Society of Powder Technology, Japan and the Fine Particle Society, USA was held in Beijing from September 5 to 8, 1988. The word 'particuology' was created by Professors Kwauk and Beddow to express the meaning of the science and technology of particles by a single word, when the Chinese Society of Particuology was established. The symposium consisted of a technical session, workshop and short course. In the technical session, 1 invited lecture by Professor Scarlet of Delft University of Technology and more than 50 presentations covering a wide range of powder technology were scheduled but because of several cancellations of the presentations in the final day, Professor Molerus of University of Erlangen_Nürnberg gave a special talk. The conference was enthusiastically received more than 130 attendees from China, Japan, the United States and other countries. What follows are brief summaries of the technical presentations.
