_The paper describes the experimental and theoretical investigations on (1) the variation of fluidized bed expansion with gas flow rate, particle size, temperature and the presence of immersed surfaces, and (2) the visible bubble flow rate and its relation to the excess gas flow rate. Both experiments conducted by the authors and literature data are analysed.
