The use of Near InfraRed spectroscopy to quantitatively and qualitatively monitor recombinant production of proteins has been evaluated with a flow cell and transmission probe at Pharmacia & Upjohn, Sweden. Different calibration methods have been used to extract spectral information for quantification of glucose, lactate, ammonia, lactic acid, biomass and viability.
