Synthesis of various isomers of 2,5-dihydroxymethyl-3,4-dihydroxypyrrolidine (DMDP) is reported from different stereoisomers of bisepoxides and cyclic sulfates. Depending on the nature of protecting groups, the course of reaction could be changed which lead to the formation of oxirane and oxetane.
