Trauma is a major cause of death in most Latin American nations, and Mexico is no exception. In the following chapter, we address the problem of trauma in Mexico and discuss how it has been tackled. The discussion deals with the nation as a whole, with special reference to the city of Monterrey. This city of 3 000 000 is the third largest city in Mexico and is the capital of the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon.
