The problem of the localization of the city and state of Mi-mi mentioned in Chinese sources and often wrongly considered to be Mâymurgh, is taken up once more. The historical background are the Ancient and Early Medieval periods of the region between the middle Syrdaria course and the Zeravshan rivers. Reviewing the information from Chinese, Arab and Classical written sources, as well as taking into consideration general topography, site plans and new archaeological finds, an identification of Karatepa (north of Zaamin) as the city Mi-mi is proposed and the rough limits of the state of Mi-mi are outlined. Karatepa also appears to be a very likely candidate as the older "City of Memacens" known from Classical sources.
