This study is an initial statement in support of a broader thesis concerning the contexts in which a re-evaluation of Armenian history and interactions between Armenians and Muslims can be attempted. Through a contextual study of all information, including such marginalized data as the history of the sects, obscure episodes such as the "Armenian period" during the last century of the Fatimid caliphate will not only be given explanations, but also contribute to the reconstruction of a hitherto concealed stratum in the medieval history of the Near East.
