In Norway, the study of religions has been conducted as a discipline in its own right, as well as integrated into other disciplines exploring human culture. This presentation will concentrate on the former, following two themes: its persistent institutional autonomy, and its varying cross-disciplinary preferences. To a certain extent, the freedom of choosing cross-disciplinary partners could be seen as conditioned by the institutional autonomy of the discipline.
