The author refutes the story that the 'great iron screwe' on board the 'Mayflower' was part of a printing-press. This would imply that the Pilgrims never had a printing-press of their own. On typographical grounds nine out of the twenty known 'Pilgrim books' are ascribed to other printers by Dr Paul Dijstelberge.
