On 26 May 1918 a group of printers and publishers founded the Joan Blaeu Society. Its aim was 'the promotion of printing and book illustration in the Netherlands'. The committee was formed, among others, by men like S.H. de Roos and J.F. van Royen. The most productive years were the early ones: three books were published, a book exhibition was organised and three annual reports appeared. Gradually activity declined. There were no more annual reports and only one further booklet came out (1929). In March 1938 the Joan Blaeu Society was dissolved. At the same time a new society was founded: the Dutch Fine Printing Society, which was to be its successor of sorts.
