The present case differs from the Court's previous paternity cases in so far as no family tie had been established between the applicant and her alleged father. However, Article 8 protected not only “family” but also “private” life. There appeared to be no reason of principle why the notion of “private life” should be taken to exclude the determination of the legal relationship between a child born out of wedlock and her natural father.
