<title> RIASSUNTO </title>Solo durante il Risorgimento alcune donne in Italia furono descritte come botaniche dai loro colleghi naturalisti. Erano poche e una sola di loro, Elisabetta Fiorini, ebbe dei riconoscimenti per i suoi considerevoli contributi nel campo delle crittogame in Italia, guadagnando l'associazione a importanti accademie scientifiche italiane. Nessun analogo riconoscimento fu mai attribuito ad altre botaniche attive come collezioniste, corrispondenti e/o assistenti di professori di botanica, proprietarie di giardini di piante esotiche, autrici della scoperta di una nuova specie di fanerogame o, talvolta, di pubblicazioni scientifiche. Questo studio mostrerà che anche una donna poteva far parte di un'accademia scientifica italiana nel sec. XIX purché, come Fiorini, seguisse un metodo di ricerca considerato paritario rispetto a quello dei colleghi scienziati.
