<title> ABSTRACT </title>The bicchierografie, or collections of designs for extravagant crystal drinking vessels to be produced by the laboratories of the grand duke of Tuscany (today conserved in Florence and Rome), were an expression of the intricate ties between artistic and scientific interests that characterized the cultural policies of the Medici. Some of the objects that appear in the 17th century bicchierografie may be considered a veritable trait d'union between utensils for household use and scientific instruments. This emerges clearly in a comparison between the designs for these bicchieri and the sketches of instruments that appear in the manuscript notebooks of the members of the Accademia del Cimento recording their experiments. Analogies of a formal and typological nature, as well as affinities in the criteria applied to the design and execution of these objects, suggest that a genuine process of osmosis took place in the Medici production of artistic and scientific glassware.
