<title> SUMMARY </title>This article considers the images of Galileo in Nineteenth-century French and Italian cultures. It compares J. N. Robert-Fleury's picture entitled Galileo davanti al Sant'Uffizio (1847) and F. Ponsard's drama Galileo (1867), produced, respectively, before and after the publication of some documents concerning Galileo's trial. The iconological and philological analysis shows the moral and religious foundations of the controversial Galileo's myth in modern age.
