Die Beschreibung von Trophotylenchulus floridensis n.g. n.sp. aus den Wurzeln von Quercus falcata Michx. bestätigt endgültig die Verwandtschaft von Sphaeronema Raski und Sher, 1952 mit Tylenchulus Cobb, 1913. Es wird vorgeschlagen, für Sphaeronema arenarium Raski den Namen Trophonema arenarium n. comb. anzunehmen. Die vier Gattungen werden zur neuen Familie der Tylenchulidae gestellt, folgenderweise: Unterfamilie Tylenchulinae Skarbilovich, 1947 (Tylenchulus, Trophotylenchulus) und Unterfamilie Sphaeronematinae Raski and Sher, 1952 (Trophonema, Sphæronema).
