Ditylenchus dipsaci aus Hafer, D. destructor aus Kartoffeln und D. myceliophagus aus Pilzbeeten zeigten Chitinase- und Cellulase Aktivität. Das pH-Optimum für diese Enzyme liegt in der Nähe von pH 5. Beide Enzyme werden durch zugesetzte Eiweissstoffe aktiviert. Es hatte den Anschein, als ob D. myceliophagus einc aktivere Chitinase bildet als D. destructor, doch war der Unterschied als ein Unterscheidungsmerkmal nicht ausreichend. In Extrakten von Turbatrix aceti wurde weder Chitinase noch Cellulase gefunden. Die Eischalen von Heterodera rostochiensis enthielten Chitin, aber nicht die Larven und die Zysten.
