Zwei biologische Typen des Hafernematoden (Heterodera major) wurden gefunden. Viele Populationen des Älchens sind nicht imstande, Cysten an den Gerstensorten Drost und Alfa zu bilden. Andere Populationen jedoch enthalten aggressive Individuen, die in der Lage sind, die Resistenz dieser beiden Sorten zu brechen. Boden von 99 infizierten Feldern wurde untersucht. In mehr als 50 Böden trat der aggressive Biotyp auf. Eine Gerstensorte, No. 191, ist resistent gegenüber beiden Biotypen. Das etwaige Vorkommen eines dritten Biotyps, der an diese Sorte angepasst ist, wird besprochen.
