Larven von Heterodera schachtii können sich anheften und ihren Stachel durch wachshaltige Cellulose-Membranen stossen. Das Anhaften an wachsfreien Membranen dauert selten länger als wenige Sekunden. Es wird angenommen, dass das Anhaften und der Versuch, in die Wurzeloberfläche einzudringen, auf einem rein physikalischen Reiz beruht. Spezifität für besondere Wirtswurzeln zeigt sich erst, nachdem das Einstossen des Stachels beendet ist.
